The Bucket List

My dad’s been railing on me for months to watch The Bucket List. Well tonight I finally watched it…it’s only been stuck on my tivo for the last 4 months. Of course I started creating my own bucket list, but then something occurred to me.

I don’t want a bucket list. I don’t want a list of things that I should have done when I was younger. I don’t want to be in a situation where I look back on my life with regret and wonder, “why didn’t I do this when I was 25.”

My goal is to not have a bucket list. My goal is to leave no stone unturned as I go through life. I want to knock off my bucket list as I get older, not while I’m staring down the last few days of a life not having worth lived.

As we ring in the new year…as we kick off 2010…as we start making resolutions and goals, stop putting things off. Stop thinking you’ll have time. Stop waiting for maybe some day. Start living the bucket list now.

I guess you can check one thing off the list… watching The Bucket List. Now it's time to get on with the rest of it… like watching Driving Miss Daisy again.

Well, I'm glad you watched the movie, son. But let me ask you something. Sometime before you were conceived, I attended an audio show in NYC. I heard a pair of speakers – Cosmostatics – that I cannot begin to explain how much I lusted over. They weren't inexpensive by that time period and I was so taken by them your mother said, 'Just buy them.' Now, had I done so, that would've meant putting off your birth. So, I just want you to know that you were a few birth control pills away from being able to post here.

Now, as years have passed, I think I made the right decision. What do you think?

This is my son. I love him dearly. We both share a love for movies that are memorable and thought provoking. For his birthday I'll send him a bucket. Perhaps everyone who follows him can send him one also. Wall Martay delivers inexpensively.
