New Pepsi Logo Looks Like Obama Campaign Logo

Is it me or does this new Pepsi logo look just like the Barack Obama campaign logo?

The new logo was rumored to have cost over $1,000,000 to create.  Look, I’m not saying they are exactly the same, but c’mon they do look like very similar.  For what it’s worth, I’ve always been a fan of the logo introduced in 1971.

i just saw the obama and new pepsi logos due to a presentation i'm doing for school. they do share same shape and colors, whether it is coincedence or not is it really a problem. some say they will stop drinking pepsi products and or stop buying pepsi product all together. how ignorant. in a way they are similar. don't think of pepsi as a drink but a small business that grew. pepsi was created by a pharmicist. he was experimenting with what would become a success. from 1898 to today pepsi had become a world wide succes in America, now pepsi might not be as significant as Obama but they both repersent a change in america they repersent a new life. I appreciate both logos as it is. being controversial in the eyes of america. its silly when people seat and critize Obama for his success. whether he was black or white he was elected because he was someone who brought something different to the table just like pepsi does. is a logo so important that changes the way people think about the succes of a man
  • Blade
What change did he bring ?? OH that right higher taxes on everyone, Government take over of companies, lack of response to needed more man power in Afganistan, kissing Pelois back side. and lying thru his teeth. I stopped drinking pepsi products a long time ago when they were support a well know pediphile. Yes the so called new logo is an direct link to the O man's logo. What a bunch of crap. Pepsi will loose a lot of customers .............. good ridence !
  • Jstu
Kristin: "what is trendy, cool, or popular"... that's an interesting statement to make considering that is how the democratic system works, by voting (i.e popularity). How do you plan to have someone elected in the system if they are not popular. I guess they could just rise to the position through family (monarch) or take the position by force (coup) or oh you get the point.

"Also let us not forget the other iconic leader with cool symbols and catchy phrases… Hitler!! ... America need to watch our F—ing backs... being a HUGE MISTAKE!!!!

Your comments are unintelligent, uninformed, and for lack of a better term moronic. Your contribution to this world so far has been unimportant and regressive, perhaps we would all be better if your existence had not occurred. So far you have shown to be a disgrace to the human race. I feel pity on those who tried to raise you, bless their soul, they tried so hard, but it appears that they too were lacking in ability. When you look in the mirror in the morning do you feel sad for what you have become? A cold, hatred filled individual who's satisfaction in this world rivals only your ability to provide meaningful and thought provoking contributions in lack of depth ...

Apply the above paragraph to kma as well...
  • annoyedatstupidity
Thank U JSTU, they are very unintelligent and uninformed. Very well said, couldn't said it better myself, a bunch of morons and idiots we have here, with a lack of an intelligent conversation. Well hell don't drink PEPSI, they won't miss U!!!!
  • Ken
Man for all the talk about Pepsi you people sure are drinking the Kool-Aide!! Sure the new Pepsi Logo looks a lot like the Obama logo. If, by that you mean that they are both round and both have red white and blue and wavy shapes in them. Oh, but wait a minute, those traits have been part of the Pepsi logo since 1962. Maybe Pepsi saw Obama comin' way back then.
  • Kristin
Yes i Googled Pepsi and Obama logos because i thought connection was a bit... obvious... I think that it may be an purposeful decision to manipulate the masses into believing that our president elect has the same "feel good" properties as a soda. People will over time not be able to differentiate between the two and eventually think a soda can be as powerful as a "leader" the entire campain was and still is all about "HYPE" and what is trendy, cool, or popular and not about what is important!

Aso let us not forget the other iconic leader with cool symbols and catchy phrases... Hitler!! so all i am saying that WE, America need to watch our F---ing backs and know that wat is popular winds up being a HUGE MISTAKE!!!!
  • Bardo
In the Obama logo, the sun is rising, not setting. A setting sun would signify the end, not the beginning. And whatever you feel about Obama and the team he's assembling, their logo is clearly meant to signify a new beginning.
  • Stacy janicki
Interesting....OR does the Obama logo look like the old Pepsi logo?? Based on your CPG background, when do you think PepsiCo began working on this new logo? My guess is around 2 years ago.
  • Tim Chive
looks to me like a popeye grinning.
  • moron
you inverted the 1987 and 1971 logos
  • mike
where can i buy the simple round obama camapign logo as a bumpersticker, or a decal, and a button?
  • sharokin
One of my students showed me this logo. My response was the same!
  • I thought the exact same after I bought a 12 pk.

strange...wonder if cokes gonna make a Mccain logo lol
  • steve
I thought the exact same thing when I saw the new logo. It's like they're trying to share in the hype and sell some more soda
  • Scott
Actually the logo that you have down as 1987 wasn't used until 1998, and they also had one in between those two that was used in 91 that looked pretty cool.
  • Adam
With regards to the image of the Pepsi logo, you'll have to talk to AdAge about the order :) The image comes from them http://adage.com/images/random/1008/6-pepsi-102...
  • Anonymous
i hate Obama, and now i must hate Pepsi
i thought the same exact thing
  • annoyedatstupidity
You don't evenknow him to hate him, you might not like him, but OMG come on people is it really that serious? What the hell does pepsi have to do with Obama??? It could b what the call a coincidence. I don't think pepsi really believes that the logo will cause some hype and more people will drink it, if you don't like pepso or dark pop you won't drink it just because you think or they think it's related to Obama some how. And the firsr fool who made a reference to Hitler, there is no comparison in the two Obama is not a cold-blooded killer, he does not have the same values or beliefs or ideas or anything else for that matter. This all sounds really stupid, you all are thinking about the wrong things.
  • tealeaf
    Pepsi Change?
  • matias
If you are blind, the NObama logo looks like the sun setting behind the American stipes, the pepsi logo looks like the old Pepsi logo stepping away from the ying yang symbol
  • matias
    sorry not setting, hiding
  • Mrs Milburn Drysdale
I only drink Pepsi Cola because it is the drink of preference for JOAN CRAWFORD! She was on their lousy Board of Directors in 1961.
  • kma
This is a blatant attempt to copy the Nobama logo and try to ride that gravy train a bit. Pretty dumb move on the part of Pepsi and I think there will be a bigger backlash if there were people that still drank Pepsi as it is. People that hate Obama and the cult-like following of him will start despising companies that try to look upon him as our savior. I will put my money where my mouth is and never buy a Pepsi product as long as I am alive. See Pepsi, if there were even just 1 million like-minded people boycotting your products, you'd have to realize the huge blunder once you hitched your wagon to a huge unknown and unproven guy like Nobama.
  • millere10
I totally agree. I won't be buying Pepsi products anymore.
  • annoyedatstupidity
Stupid, Stupid, Stupid. Cult like following??? Now it's a cult like following because there is a black man in the White house??? Black people we don't do cult's, that is a White thing, U never hear of black people joining cult's and everybody killing themselves for one stupid person for no real reason!! Obama wants to make things better, he's not having people leave their families behind and throw their lives away to live in one big house with him while he feeds you a bunch of Bs and use snake blood and chants. I'm by far a racist but it is apparent that there is definitely some racism going on here and racist remarks, but whateva the case he is there in the WHITE HOUSE, NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU DON'T LIKE IT AND HE'S GOT 4 YEARS TO GO SO DEAL WITH IT.....HAHAHAHAHAH
  • zippyster
I'm sorry. I do believe Reverend Wright has a "black cult following." So yes, you people do the cult thing as well. He preaches to kill white men which if reversed white people would be called racists. (I believe it's called "black theology.") Oh, and those chickens coming home to roost are White people sick and tired of black people pulling the race card when they don't even know what the definition of an actual racist is. And yes, if you'd studied anything having to do with Hitler and the 3rd Reich you would know that like Obama he too had his logo, his following and wanted to annihilate the Jewish race. Obama is trying to get "social justice" by annihilating the white race. The only problem here is, the people that didn't vote for him or believe in his BS are going to suffer along with the rest of the "believers."
  • kma
To add to my above comment, maybe Pepsi is hoping for a "can't lose"situation. If they fail with this marketing campaign, they will go to Nobama for a bailout/handout. Nobama will be flattered they used their logo in his honor further stroking his massive ego and will probably have under handed deals going on in his corrupt Chicago like fashion, which is the only way he has ever known.
  • I really thought of the same and googled a few phrases like new pepsi logo looks like Obama one and ended up here. No doubt, it is a rip off.
  • Beth
As soon as I saw it, I knew that they were trying to have the logo resemble Obama's.
I think that it is a stupid tactic. I won't drink Pepsi products anymore.
  • mrscriblam
    yeah that makes complete sense

i guess it looks kind of like a circle with the colors red white and blue in it
  • Colonist
I saw the new Pepsi logo last night and surfed right to this site this morning. It definitely looks like the Obama logo. That little logo change is going to bite them in the Can...
  • Jamie
I am not a fan of the new Pepsi Logo. However, it doesn't look anything like the Obama logo, unless you count the fact that they both have red, white, and blue in them. I commend Pepsi on trying something new, something that doesn't seem to happen in advertising much during an economic recession.
  • kma
The last 2 above posters are blind or are moles for Pepsi or Obama. COme on up until Obamas stupid "O" logo why would Pepsi decide to use a clone of it. And Ken, you idiot, the colors are the same and have been since 1962 or whatever year you say, but it's not the colors that make them look alike you dope it's the shapes and curves and the way Pepsi used the logo to represent the letter "O", hmmmm just like Obama did. Seems the same to me.
  • Looks nothing like it.
  • Sey
Man, I've been thinking the same thing since I first saw it. Why not capitalize on Obama-mania by becoming the (unofficial) soda of the White House? Good marketing move if it was intended. Weird coincidence if not.
  • jhoekman
I tell you what, if it were only for the logo, I would not have thought much about it. But when combined with words like 'hooray', 'hope', 'optimism' that all conote some sort of change that is in the wind (very similar, almost exact, marketing message that helped Obama reach the office, FYI), it is hard to ignore that there is an obvious connection between Pepsi's new advertising campaign and the fact that 'change' has now arrived in the man of President-Elect Obama.

I mean, what if anythign has Pepsi changed about it's product that inspires hope, or optimism, or would cause you to shout horray? Nothing. It's the same. The only thing that has changed that would be 'horray' or 'hope' worthy is the change of the guard in the Oval Office. I am not ready to write off Pepsi as that is just plain dumb, but to ignore that there is an obvious correlation is also as stupid. My two cents.
  • Tyler
The worst part is that Times Square in NYC is covered with the new logo and no mention of Pepsi -- just a bunch of dumb slogans. And in Los Angeles, one huge billboard ad says "YES YOU CAN" with the O being the new logo....COME ON, give me a break! That is the most blatant use of Obama's high profile figure at the moment to sell sodas...geez.
  • kenadayl
I too immediately thought of the Obama logo when I saw a new Pepsi can. It can't be coincidence, especially since Pepsi then came out with that "Dear Mr. President" campaign (you can see it here: http://www.refresheverything.com/). Whether it ends up hurting or helping Pepsi to associate themselves with Obama is yet to be determined, but in my opinion there is no possible way that they chose that logo without knowing people would compare it to the Obama logo.

And, side note to Jstu, were your comments really necessary? I mean seriously, it's okay to disagree with people--that's the beauty of America--but to degrade their very existence? Come on man, let's have some integrity and basic respect for fellow human beings.
  • Lafonda
    It looks like gravy!
  • to the skeptics, just turn the pepsi logo until the red portion is centered on bottom. not a coincidence. If association is what they wanted, they got it from me. Yuck!!!
  • lindsay
I think it is obvious that Pepsi changed their logo to look like the Obama campaign's symbol. ESPECIALLY if you watch the commercials with it. If a Pepsi is around, yeah, I'll drink it...but it was extremely dumb and unprofessional of Pepsi to take sides politically, knowing the effects it will have on people!! There are already people at my work that have started a petition stating that they will not support Pepsi or any of its affiliates because of Pepsi's choice to support Obama and gay rights as well....
  • lindsay
and just to say one more thing... Obama doesn't really have anything to be proud about even though Pepsi is apparently endorsing him. Everyone knows Coca Cola always has and will do better than Pepsi... Maybe Burger King or Arby's will endorse him next..
  • Ben
Thought that myself, you beat me to it. Nice work.
  • robin
whats wrong with u people are u that unsatisfied by a drink and the predident elect. Pepsi is doing what they have to do to keep their money flowing...basic principle of economics the drink effect our people as a whole...speaking to those who still drink and eat pepsi products. Obama will be in office after the inaguration by the grace of God and people critize the man. Logos are not as significant important as you think. logos repersent a glimpse of what the company is about.
  • lindsay
significant or important?...Yea logos are just a small portion, but Pepsi supports Obama, bottom line....and when it comes down to it, nobody asked them. Ha, know your role Pepsi
  • wally6sic6
they both look like eyes... new world order scum
  • robin

  • mike
the diet pepsi can i have here in north carolina has a smaller middle white area and a big zero just below it (for "zero cal-carb-sug") ........it looks like a capital "O" there ia no way that you can argue that pepsi is capitalizing on winning propaganda....i have side by side photo of new and old cans and obama "plane tail" logo...KEEP AWAY FROM ALL CARBONATED SODAS THEY MAKE YOU GAIN WEIGHT REGARDLESS OF SUGAR OR NOT
  • Bill
There is no doubt - this is blatant on Pepsi's part. I hope their trendy campaigning has finally spelled their doom. I will never buy another pepsi product.
  • Average Joe
Looks like the backside of a plumber bending over, only without the butt crack.
Not a good logo to use when so many teenagers have access to a Sharpie :)
  • ChicagoGal
I thought I was imagining it. Then I saw the YouTube channel with the "Dear Mr. President" videos. Pepsi is doing what it needs to do to survive. They need to make a lot of money to contribute to campaigns (Obama and the Congress) so they don't get taxed out of business. They would have done the same thing, in some other fashion, if McCain had won. Follow the money. And if you don't like where it's going, you stop buying the product. We - the consumers - have the ultimate power...control of our wallets (for the most part). I for one am going to miss my Diet Pepsi. But water is better for me anyway.
  • Duke
I work for Pepsi, and I hated the new logo when I first saw it. I thought it was because the accompanying font for the word "Pepsi" looks like something they stole from Ipod. I also thought it looked like a kid at a daycare just smudged a freshly painted traditional Pepsi globe logo....but now I realize I hated it because it looks just like the Obama logo.....I always knew Pepsico was big on liberalism, but I had no idea it was willing to adopt a Polynesian American bastard child to prove it.
  • annoyedatstupidity
DUKE YOU ARE STUPID AND SHOULD BURN IN HELL FOR THAT COMMENT, WELL IDIOT DON'T DRINK PEPSI AND THAT IS WHY HE'S RUNNING YOUR COUNTRY TOO, WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT..hahahahaha SO DEAL WITH IT. AND PEPSI SHOULD FIRE YOUR ASS AND SEND YOU TO THE WHITE HOUSE AND CALL HIM A BASTARD TO HIS FACE. THIS SHOWS YOUR LEVEL OF INTELLIGENCE...NONE0-0 FOOL.
  • Duke
interestingly, if you turn the Pepsi Logo 135 degrees to the left (yes, Left, as in the socialist and communist radical left), you'll notice the similarities more clearly....
  • Darek
I saw the new logo and it reminded me of Obama. I now purposely drink Coke instead. A few others I know feel the same way.
  • Jeff
In the Obama logo, the sun is setting on America. And yes, I to will purchase Coke instead.
  • Kathy
The logo doesn't look at all like Obama's logo!! I do wish we would have elected a real president as opposed to a celebrity. I wasn't a fan of McCain either. America needs a leader, not someone who sits around, doesn't say a damn thing, and smile like he doesn't have a clue.
  • stlouis
"I'm gonna stop drinking Pepsi!", "Well, now I'm gonna switch to Coke!". Sorry-ass, wonder why the country is full of obesity. Use some common sense and stop drinking that poison by the half-gallon. Watch the movie Wall-E to catch a glimpse of the future.
  • jane
It sure is- check out the Pepsi website. Scary. I actually am writing Pepsi to let them know that their new campaign is just plain weird.
  • steven
This makes me NOT want to buy pepsi!

It is funny how all you clowns say you will stop drinking pepsi. Do you have any idea of how many different products they have. I'll bet you will drink a pepsi product and won't even know it. Do you think pepsi will care if a few people stop drinking it. They do billions and billions in sales each year. I drink both pepsi and coke and have no favorite. The two logos look nothin alike. Pepsi has always tried to target the younger generation, knowing the older generation typically perfers coke. So I'm sure they are tring to be urban, trendy to apeal to the new ways of or younger generation. For all you Obama haters, get over it he is our president so deal with it and move on with life
  • flare
I was watching the new Pepsi commercial and noticed the similarity Obama's O. The commercial uses the phrase 'Yes you can' which rips off Obama's slogan 'Yes we can.' The number of different non-endorsed Obama products I have seen that capitalze on Obama's popularity is disgusting, but to see a big corporation like Pepsi Co. do it really aggravates me.
  • Ashley
I just saw the commercial for Pepsi. With the new logo. My husband and I both thought it looked like the Obama "O". Pathetic.
  • Heather
Not an Obamo OR Pepsi fan (yay Hillary and Coca Cola Classic), but come on, it's SO related. I read these comments, respecting everyone's point, then I open my Boston Globe today....full page color ad, with the words "Together" "Hope" "All for One", "Lov etc" "Joy" "One for All" "XOXO" and yes, even "012009". All of the "O's" are the logo......That would be an awfully convenient coincedence people.
  • Bubba says...
This simply cannot be a coincidence folks, time to boycott PepsiCo products!
  • Bubba says...
I thought Obama stated he was going to change the National Anthem to, "I'd Like to Buy The World a Coke" song or Kum-bay-Ya??
  • Ryan
Boycott Pepsi? Are you people serious? I don't buy Pepsi, but at least I have a valid reason: I don't like the way it tastes. I can only imagine some of these wackjobs calling an important family meeting to lay down the new rules: no member of the family is allowed to buy Pepsi products, because clearly their logo resembles that of last year's Democratic presidential candidate's campaign. Make sure you boycott KFC, Taco Bell, and Pizza Hut, too -- they are all owned by a division of PepsiCo. Luckily, you can still cram a Big Mac into your gaping maw without supporting our new Commander-in-Chief, as McDonald's still serves good ol' fashioned Republican Coca-Cola.

Better go peel that faded American flag sticker off the old SUV, too -- people might think you actually support the leader of the nation if you continue to sport that flag! Patriotism is so Bush-administration anyway, right?
  • nanorich
Isn't it interesting that a President with a 80% approval rate is being dissed by people who think Pepsi cares what they think?
  • Anonymous
I guarantee every single one of the people claiming to boycott pepsi products are going to order a coke at their favorite restaurant...

..then, when the waitress asks "is pepsi okay?" they'll reply yes and suck down their pepsi with the smug satisfaction that they asked for coke first.
  • Sharon
I'm going to just do CokeZero from now on!
  • High Fructose Bailout
If people stop drinking Pepsi as a result of their stealing the Obama logo then it will be a great step forward for America. High fructose corn syrup is ruining our nation's health - with terrifying increases in diabetes, obesity, ADD and numerous other problems. The American government subsides the cheap production of sugar via corn and corporations like Pepsi and countless others are reaping massive profits at the cost of all American taxpayers. These corporations do not have to pay the billions of dollars in health care resulting from the scientifically proven and irrefutable damages done to the health of the American public - we have to pay for it. And our children have to pay for it with their ability to read, write, and lead normal lives. The costs of high fructose corn syrup - a main ingredient in countless products - extend far beyond our pocketbooks. America is fat, can't concentrate, and the healthcare system has been pushed to the brink of ruin.
  • Mike
It's a cross marketing effort. If you all looked in the background of all the celebs interviewed at these Inaugural Balls, you'll see "HOPE" with the New Pepsi Logo as the "O". I am sick to my stomach with this propaganda and marketing...I don't like what is happening here folks...
  • paul
this is retarted, you people are looking way to far into things, I'm no Obama supporter, and I didn't vote for him. But thinking that the new pepsi symbol looks anything like the Obama campaign symbol is completely obsurd, and people need to stop with conspiricy theories. You are only making fools of yourselves, it's just plain annoying!!
  • paul
by the way...I like your comment Ryan...good stuff. lol
  • Keith
I thought the same thing, and so did my 1-and-a-half year old son. President Obama has become a very popular subject in our household, and my son takes every opportunity to point out anything related to "Obama" - when he's on TV, in the paper, anytime we drive past an Obama yard sign, etc. The other day, I was drinking from a newly designed can of Pepsi, and my son pointed to it shouting excitedly, "Obama, Obama!"
  • Matt
It's creepy enough we have a president with a logo. It's beyond creepy when pepsi jumps on the Obama band wagon. For any of you that think there is no conection go to Pepsi.com and see there "Mr. president help refresh america" campain, Maybe that will make it obvious for you. Can you see the forest through all those trees? I wonder when the Obama statues and banners are going up. We could put his face on the flag too.
  • solomeeeo
I thought the exact same thing when I saw it. If that many of us think it does, then it must. Won't be long before his head will be on all our money, one price on gas one price on air fare, etc....Socialism here we come!!
  • Jen
yea ive noticed that they look the same..if ur turn the pepsi can to the side a bit they look even more like it...i noticed it the other day when i went to grab a can from my fridge...im soo tired of the hype with this...i have declared to my family and everyone i know that i will no longer be drinking pepsi...i even told my boss (who keep pop in the office kitchen fridge for his employees) and he went out the next day and got all coke products.
  • chad
The obama logo is also like the target, scotch tape and other logos which employ the point within a circle symbol, which represents both the sun and the act of procreation. Also compare it to the many logos which display a rising sun ie...Days inn, foldgers, frito lay etc... Many times you see the pepsi symbol appearing to be floating in the sky or outer space, like a mysterious planet, or a new sun. Sort of like the new years ball which will now be lit and looming over the new york landscape just like the obamam sun rising over the american landscape, just like the eyball with the sun behind it looming over the whole world from its perch atop the nearly finished pyramid on the dollar bill. It's the progression of humanity's submission to the new god in whom the dollar bill says we trust. Our own sorry state is flaunted in front of our faces and we thinks it's just a matter of choosing the best cola or the best fake presicent!
  • DaveyDave
if it looks like pepsi.. bring it up on 99problems.org
  • Tim
Wow, now I know how urban legends are created. The new logo represents smiles. Have you noticed that pepsi, dt pepsi, and dt pepesi max all have different size white portions, or smiles, in the middle of the logo. thats all it is guys.
  • jenny
yea i swear 99problems.org has been doing this already???? right???
  • nikki
yea the 99 problems thing started the 1st day Obama was in office. Its following his first 100 days and all the problems hes facing. there are videos each day showing the problems too. they are pretty similar ideas.

  • New Zealand's Phoenix Organics Launches Anti-Aspartame "Think Before You Drink" Campaign

Ever wondered why you can’t buy ‘Diet’ Phoenix or Phoenix ‘Zero’? It’s because we pride ourselves on producing the most natural soft drinks you can buy. That means avoiding anything artificial, including Aspartame.

Aspartame is by far the most common artificial sweetener in ‘diet’ drinks and foods. It’s always been controversial and according to independent (non-industry funded) doctors and researchers, Aspartame can cause a range of symptoms ranging from mild and transitory to debilitating and life-threatening. From headaches and depression to blindness, cancer, Alzheimer’s, and multiple sclerosis. Ironically for a ‘diet’ additive, Aspartame is even claimed to encourage obesity because it stimulates a craving for carbohydrates!

For those of you who would rather support Coke because of the Pepsi/Obama association, you might rather stick with Pepsi. Turn the Pepsi logo upside down so that it looks like Obama's trademark then read the way Pepsi appears, 'is ded' you will see what I mean.

Given the amount of time and money going into this, it is hard to imagine that this perspective was not seen. However, is just as likely to be unintended either way or fully intended, you will never know. It would drive us into a civil disaster if anything happened to Obama. I wish him no harm. Consider the messiah iconography that accompanies him and the comparison to JFK. Hopefully these comparisons end with his life and are not applied to his death.

Pour me another glass! You can make any superstitious comparison that you wish and it still means nothing except the energy you give it. All's I'm saying is it is ridiculous to switch to Coke because you think Pepsi supports Obama. Pepsi supports itself and is just using the changing of the guard to get community based advertising for free. If you really want to make relevant choices on your consumerism, don't support products that victimize vulnerable populations.

Change starts with you and your household. Take advantage of the spirit of change in the air to manifest something significant in the lives of you, your family and then outward from there. Get to know your neighbors. Network and know what to do for each other in your neighborhood. Support constitutional government. Get involved. Be kind, not rude. Spread an uplifting word. Support your local economy. Start a community garden or a TimeBank etc...
  • Max
You got it Jean! I'm impressed.
  • Joshua Wise
You're not the first person to claim this, and you're still retarded. The new logo, looks almost identical to the OLD LOGO. Whereas the Obama logo incorporates a circle, and the colors of our flag, the similarities END. If you want to make the argument that the new logo looks like the Obama logo, then the OLD ONE IS JUST AS SIMILAR. So Obama would have to have ripped off Pepsi. God damn you people are idiots.
  • shan
ooo...i never liked pepsi before. now i do.

    66 million ppl agree...pepsi's better.

by the way, President Obama has a new logo...looks like the white house.

    check it out. www.whitehouse.gov
  • solomeeeo
If you need more proof, check out the Pepsi commercial with The Pointer Sisters singing "Yes We Can" as the logo is bounced around on the screen. Coincidence, I don't think so!
  • I'm not sure the two look "similar" sure they have similar color pallets and overall shape - but the same could be said of the earlier logos as well.

What the new logo looks like to me is a big red butt sitting down on a blue chair.

I think it's far too feminine a design - bordering on what a tampon logo would look like.
  • I thought the same thing and don't care for Obama, but I agree...stop drinking the hat e kool-aide. I will still drink Pepsi from time to time when I want a "change" from Coke:)
  • The pepsi and obama correlation was the first thing that popped in my head.

Damn Jstu, you've got some serious problems. What a colorful display of hatred towards someone who did absolutely nothing wrong.

The Doctor should've thrown you out and kept the placenta....haha.
  • Brado
Is it just me or does it seem like marketing people from a lot of companies are shifting their logos to shapes that look like sheets flapping in the wind?

The new Pepsi logo does in fact look like the Obama campaign symbol... Could this be a sign that we are leaning closer to becoming a socialist regime? First nationalize the railroads (Amtrack), then the banks (bailouts), the automakers, and now Pepsi...

Mark my words.. one day we are all going to be wearing red, white, and blue jumpsuits and jumping on the company (government) train to go to our jobs making pot metal products. Oh and we'll owe the Chinese everything we make.
  • Superstarseven
Wow, Brado. You sure aren't paranoid. You and ignorant A-hole KMA should exchange e-mails.
  • Voice of reason
Wow - lots of conspiracy theories and hatred out there.

First it's so obvious that the two logos are similar - there is a giant billboard with the word "HOPE" by the office. No mention of the word "Pepsi" but it is their logo in place of the O, not Obama's. Clearly Pepsi is trying to ride the coattails of Obama's popularity. However, it is not clear that there is an official sponsorship out there, or any money has changed hands either direction.

To those that dislike the new President I still think you ought to give him a chance. He seems to be tackling quite a few problems that have been left unchecked over the last 8 years. Give the new administration, even people of different ethnic backgrounds, different skin color or sexual orientation from yourself a break.

America was built as a melting pot of various peoples and cultures - we are different from each other which is a good thing, not a bad thing. Imagine if every crayon in your deluxe pack was the same exact color - boring, no? Everyone has value and beauty in their own unique way and it is not cool (or intellectually impressive) to diss people just because they are different than yourself. We might actually learn something and grow spiritually and mentally by considering the perspective of others.

Two phrases: "do unto others as you would have done unto you" and "judge not lest ye be judged."

I completely agree that we should use the power of our dollar to vote, but for those still thinking they shouldn't drink Pepsi because of the logo similarity instead of health reasons or environmental consciousness then you may also have to boycott:

    Mountain Dew
    Tava
    Sierra Mist
    Sobe Waters
    Amp
    Aquafina
    Tostitos
    Sun Chips
    Doritos
    Lay's Chips
    Tropicana
    Near East rice products
    Quaker - oatmeal, cereal bars
    Cap'n Crunch
    Life cereal
    Aunt Jemima
    Gatorade, G2 and Propel water

as all of these brands live under the Pepsi Corporation. Good luck with that.

Please be kind to one another and if you feel the need to boycott think of a sane and solid reason not to consume mass produced food and beverages. Like they are not healthy for your body, mind or planet. Peace out.
  • Jim
More like Obama campaign copying Pepsi. The logo is not far off from what they have had for years. Doesn't really matter to me. I drink Coke products.
  • YourLogoMatters
    I personally don’t like it.

Before & After magazine has an interesting take on this topic: http://www.mcwade.com/DesignTalk/2009/02/does-p...

i am wondering, about, the age of the folks writing on this blog...i am 65. the first thing i said upon seeing obama's logo, for the first time..."gee, that looks like the pepsi logo of the 1960's"...i remember the bottlecaps, in the 60's, looking, very much, like his logo...if you ask me which came first, " Come Alive! You're In The Pepsi Generation".

anyone who says the pepsi was influenced by Obama and tried to copy him is an idiot. You probably are the same idiot that voted for Bush beause he is such a great leader.
  • blu_7
lol@everyone who thinks the logos are similar

Ok, so a "slightly altered" rendition of a logo that existed since the early twentieth century, that has a little white "swivle", somehow resembles a circular logo with a sun rising above a red and white background...

that is everyone's argument here, right?

    ...ok
  • blu_7
Rather than ask whether or not it resembles Obama's logo, perhaps the first question that should be asked is:

whether or not half the users on this thread wear glasses.
  • Brent
    Dear voice of reason guy,

Thanks so much for the condescending platitude filled lecture rehashing the melting pot/crayola crayon analogies, I think the next thing we're supposed to do after a speech like that is to drink some milk and go lay down on the cots for nap time. The problem is that people like you think in terms of republicans versus democrats instead of seeing things as they really are, ruling class versus working class. I don't see Obama "tackling quite a few problems that have been left unchecked over the last 8 years", I see him exacerbating a bunch of problems that were created in the last 32 years. I don't want to give him a chance because I don't like what he's said he wants to do with his chance. Your inference that everyone who opposes him does so because they are hateful heterosexual white males doesn't even merit a response. Go swim in the shallow end of the thought pool with your official Obama water wings on you 10" biceps. When this is all said and done and we're in the greatest depression we've ever seen I wonder if people like you will blame it all on the phantom scourge of racism or if you'll have the intellectual honesty to say your king was wrong.
  • jax
Okay, let's get this idiot's argument over with so we can go back to focusing on what came first: the chiken or the egg. My point being that we could sit here aguing this crap until the hormone-fed cows come home but none of us will see any improvement in our ability to think for ourselves, put food on our tables, or have an erection lasting longer than three hours. Just once I'd like to see as much energy put into finding solutions to the problems of man as is put into bitching about them. That being said, I'll see you all at the next U.N. meeting. Cheers! P.S. if your fat, get your ass on a tread mill. If your ugly get your ass some plastic surgery. If your an idiot, shut your mouth. Quit complaining and do something about it, pussy!
  • things as they really are, ruling class versus working class.>>

We see things as they REALLY are: wolves, vs. sheep, sheepdogs and shepherds. And those who spout vile BS advocating a "ruling class v. working class" POV are the wolves. It is necessary, I think to go to Eastern Europe and help dig up some the mass graves dug and filled by the intellectual forebears of class-think.
  • Jim
Screw Pepsi. I'll never drink it again.
  • bud
ATT logo is the same also!
  • You are are retarded.
For those of you who said Obama copied Pepsi, if you had half a brain, you would have googled "Pepsi Obama" and read hundreds of articles noting Pepsi's new design campaign to ride the coattails of Obama- uh, "It's Time To Refresh"? isn't Obamobvious enough? If I sound condescending, you are retarded.

For those of you who support Pepsi paying $1,000,000 to copy Obama's food stamps donut and bacon strips (who probably did steal the idea from an earlier version of Pepsi) are also retarded. Why didn't those fools just donate the $1,000,000 to the bogus stimulus tab and give us who actually WORK FOR A LIVING a little bit of tax relief.

Pepsi is the Kool-Aid for the Obamageneration.
  • Jess
Looks like someone needs glasses. Same colors but entirely different design.
  • If you think that the new logo looks like Obama's campaign logo, then what about the old logo. Maybe you should be thinking that Obama used Pepsi's old logo as a basis for his logo. NOT the other way around
  • ester
the disappointing aspect isn't calling out which ad team is guilty of copying the other's propaganda, rather it is watching little critical debate over brand-name and mass market exploitation of the political election in the US.
  • susan
I agree 100% with Brent. The O is an egomaniac, I don't agree with any of his policies and I hate the new logo.
  • Molly
I don't think that it's pepsi trying to "ride the coattails of Obama's popularity" (as "Voice of Reason" commented) I think that it's propaganda. People like pepsi, they see the pepsi logo. Then they see the Obama logo and they'll vote for Obama because they like pepsi. So basically, vote for the pepsi logo.
My theory... obama worked this out with one of the biggest food companies in the US. propaganda. Just like hitler used.
  • john
I think pepsi is stupid for changing the logo. And it doesn't remind me of obamas logo at all.
  • Kenny West
The "WOW" billboards started to appear after the election - could it be Pepsico's reaction to O being elected?
    Real Americans drink Coke anyway
  • Tripoli
Whoever compared Obama's campaign to Hitler's campaign is a dolt. Read a book. Hitler got into power through a mixture of friend in high places, assassinations, violence, fear, and promises of ethnic cleansing. Oh and who the hell really gives a damn about two different logos with the same color key?
  • madi
rotate the pepsi logo so the the red is at the bottom it looks almost exactly the same as the obama logo. now flip the pepsi upside down. ISdEd (is dead)
  • Tony Million
"For what it’s worth, I’ve always been a fan of the logo introduced in 1971"

Shame you didn't put that one on the page instead of the eighties reworking you have put on
  • chase_dog
this is stupid, pepsi has been around way longer than obama has been alive! the new logo is just a twist off the 1962/71/87 logos. the white part is just tapers towards one end. this is ridiculous, and obama is an idiot.
  • austin7
Pepsi? Seriously, if it was obama behind this it would be grape or peach soda. Maybe skrawberry while they were walking down the skreet.
  • cdblanch
  • montegomeryjackson
Uh, okay. Pepsi has designed a logo similar to this one since 1962. Their logo looks nothing like Obama's except they're both "Red, White and Blue". Who fucking cares what color the logo's are? Fucking idiots. As you can probably tell, I drink Pepsi and can't stand Obama.
  • sbosquez
Walked into our local Kroger and saw a Pepsi display and on the cube box it says HOPE with this new Obama looking logo. Don't drink Pepsi and glad!
  • The O
lol, 1 million? I think they should've searched for a graphic designer on craigslist, they woudl've found somebody for cheaper and gotten either the same or better results
  • alice3161
The new Pepsi logo sucks big time! It looks like that idiotic Obama campaign logo and EVERYONE knows how stupid that entire administration is. Who was the influencing factor behind this stupid move? If Pepsi wants their sales to go up then Pepsi should go back to any one of the logos from 1962, 1971 or 1987.
  • Mark
Call me old-fashioned, but there is "something" about the 1951 logo that is so ... classic. For one thing, it reminds us that the number one brand in cola -- Coca-Cola -- has somehow managed to innovate, revamp, and introduce a variety of new product lines and branding without giving up on ITS classic logo -- the script-style emblem that continues to adorn anything that is, unequivocally, its core brand -- the "Coke" that has calories, sodium, no designer flavors ... just good old Coca-Cola emblazoned in white against a bright red background. I loved Pepsi as kid, and I've often wondered whether the ad people they pay the big bucks to have ever thought of the wisdom of "going back" and re-embracing the design that proclaimed "Pepsi-Cola" in huge letters, sometimes against the bottle top, from Times Square to the machine at the garage.
  • Now wait a minute, c'mon people.... Although The Obama logo is also red, white and blue. It looks like a blue sky with a white sun setting behind the American stipes, The pepsi logo looks like the old Pepsi logo stepping away from the ying yang symbol. Although this new Pepsi logo too is red, white and blue. However, it does NOT look like the Obama logo...unless you just want it to. It does have the same colors, and it is round. But side by side there is a clear! difference. They are round with the same colors But! they are clearly two different logos. Amazing how some people just want to start trouble for nothing.
  • You're not the first person to claim this. The new logo, looks almost identical to the OLD LOGO. Whereas the Obama logo incorporates a circle, and the colors of our flag, the similarities END. If you want to make the argument that the new logo looks like the Obama logo, then the OLD ONE IS JUST AS SIMULAR. So Obama would have to have ripped off Pepsi. God damn you people are idiots.
  • melekapono
I think the logo is ugly and really, rather cheap looking. Yes it does look like the Obama logo and frankly, I think that is no coicidence considering the stand Pepsi takes on issues. Furthermore, the font, in comparison to all past fonts since 1898, is weak. I don't know, but I'm wondering if Pepsi is a translation somewhere for pipsqueak because all their other logos, the word is bold, strong, out there making a statement. All this and a bad tasting soft drink to boot. To spend over $1,000,000 to create a logo? And where does the money come from? The consumer. A better idea is to let their consumers design it by holding a contest and letting the consumers vote. They could award the winner(s) with a trip around the world that would have been cheaper than $1 million. Frugal wasteful spending. I wonder if their employees got a cost of living raise? I doubt it.
  • jimmiekutscher
I honestly do not nor have I ever liked the new logo, however I have been a true Pepsi believer for Fourty years or so. It's just my opinion. Thanks....O B A M A------- ONE BIG ASS MISTAKE AMERICA !!!!!!!!!!!!! WHERE IS THE CHANGE !!!!!!!!

As far as the two logos looking VERY similar, I will use a popular phrase from the current television show, "NCIS": "Ya think, Denozo??"!!! The logo "just happened" to be changed the SAME YEAR after B.O.'s surge in popularity in the 2008 elections -- and the head of Pepsi, last I knew, "just happens" to be a Negro woman. Also, has a Caucasian American (or of any other race) candidate for U.S. President, during the national Presidental campaign, EVER created his/her OWN PRESIDENTIAL LOGO before in history?? Answer: not that I know of!!! Now THAT action/logo was audacity on a grandiose, extremely narciscisstic scale....but, then, we are talking about B.HUSSEIN O. -- so, it shouldn't be at all surprising. "Ya think, Denozo??"
  • craigmd
Interesting. I just saw an ad in the WSJ today (11/10/09) and thought it looked incredibly similar to Obama's logo and googled it. It turned me off to see Pepsi looking like Obama. Pepsi - like Coca Cola - are American institutions, and to be even close in appearance to the most radically left administration the U.S.A. has ever seen is appalling. GE shot themselves in the foot by getting overly cozy with the administration to the detriment of their shareholders, and Pepsi, if this is deliberate, will do the same.
Also, like the 1971 logo the best, with 1962 as a close second.
  • Anonymous by right
WTF, this logo is a disgrace, no one likes this logo, and pepsi must undo what they have done, and upon learning that pepsi is now publicly aligned with the obama administration by their actions, I will now NOT buy any pepsi at all until they fix this grand error, not because of which political party they are involved with, but because they got political, which they shouldn't have done.
GET RID OF IT LIKE AN UNWANTED BABY
Please link us to more places that can help us fight this abomination. (votes, message boards that don't require registration etc.

It would be far more accurate to say the Obama logo looks like the new Pepsi logo which was released just prior to the Obama logo, however take a look at the old Pepsi logo, it is even more similar. I have heard it rumored that the designer who did the Obama logo has gotten in some trouble for the design being so similar. (not legal trouble mind you, just a bad rep)
