Another Good Nugget From Jaffe

Published by Adam under Marketing & Advertising

This is a really great write up by Joseph Jaffe on the change that needs to happen with how “creatives” create “creative. My favorite quote is

“When I worked at TBWA\Chiat\Day, maverick interactive creative director Doug Jaeger created a new format for interactive: in addition to the copywriter and art director (20 percent technologist, 80 percent creative director), there was a wizard (80 percent technologist, 20 percent creative director). Brilliant. Ahead of its time. Lost on us.
The simple addition of a bit of imaginative science to the intangible and mystical art component became the ultimate counterbalance.”

We have wizards…we just need to unleash them.

MLB Baseball - Minnesota Style

Published by Adam under Events, Sports

Heading to a Twins game tonight; should be a lot of fun! Haven’t been to a real baseball game in a few years. Got some tickets down by home plate for only $50.00 a pop. Just goes to show you the difference between the NY and MN markets. Have to love the web…was able to purchase and print the tickets on line. No need for will call. Sweet.

After 367 Days I Don’t Know What To Do

Published by Adam under Cora, Family

I’ve been photographing Cora every day since she was born. It was part of a project to capture 1 photo each day till her 1st birthday. Well Sunday April 13th, 2008 was her 1st birthday. It was a BLAST. Check out some photos here. Well yesterday, I didn’t know what the hell to do. I didn’t pick up the camera once and boy it was strange.

Switched to Wordpress

Published by Adam under Misc.

So finally abandoned the old Thekmiecs.com site template and Blogger. Needed a way to consolidate everything into a simpler and easier to use tool. Should be really interesting.

Hell I want it…it’s amazing. Cora played around with it at Sam’s Club this weekend and was just in love with it. In a few years we’ll have one.

The Mystery of Smurfette

Published by Adam under Funny, Misc.

I’ve always been fascinated with Smurfette. I never understood how there could be all these guy smurfs and one female smurf. Just strange. Well Wikipedia, bless your heart, has given me the clarity I need here. In short “She was magically created from clay by the Smurfs’ enemy, Gargamel, so that she would use her charms to cause jealousy and competition among the Smurfs in order to cause their fall. He left her in the forest and a passing Smurf took her to the Smurf village, where she was kept out of kindness. Gargamel used blue clay, sugar and spice but nothing nice, crocodile tears, half a pack of lies, a chatter of a magpie, and the hardest stone for her heart to make smurfette.”

Who would thought it?

Active Listening

Published by Adam under Colle+McVoy, Misc.

Per Wikipedia

“When interacting, people often are not listening attentively to one another. They may be distracted, thinking about other things, or thinking about what they are going to say next, (the latter case is particularly true in conflict situations or disagreements).

Active listening is a structured way of listening and responding to others. It focuses attention on the speaker. Suspending one’s own frame of reference and suspending judgment, are important in order to fully attend to the speaker.”

This should be a building block of account management training and employee management.
